Getting there

Here's what I propose. I'll run the first carnival, aiming to get it posted on my blog by February 14th. So this is a call for entries for that first one - if you've already submitted an entry I'll include it. Submissions can be made to simon[at]simonworld[dot]mu[dot]nu and please title it Showcase Entry. Full submission details are here.

Second for those who have kindly offered to host the carnival, I will start a list to be posted and left here with the upcoming hosts. As Harvey suggested, something similar to this. I'll try and knock this site into a similar shape.

At the end of each carnival I would ask the host to include the details of the next blog to host the carnival.

This will be a weekly carnival. With the first being Feb 14th, the next would be Feb 21st and so on and so on. If you're interested in hosting and haven't yet left a message, please do so in the comments or send me an email.

So far I have as hosts:

Feb 14 - Simon World
Feb 21 - Lucas Brachish
Feb 28 - Karin
Mar 7 - Sadie
Mar 14 - Josh Cohen
Mar 21- Snooze Button Dreams
Mar 28 - Mookie
April 4 - Disintegrator
Apr 11 - Ogre's View
Apr 18 -
Apr 25 -
May 2 -
May 9 - Baboon Pirates

These are people that have already emailed and offered to host it. If these dates don't work, let me know ASAP.

In conclusion:
1. First carnival Feb 14th
2. Please spread the word for submissions.
3. Please spread the word for hosts.

Update: Harvey's right - we need a good name. Any ideas? The Showcase Carnival? New Kids on the Block?

Great idea, Simon. I'll be pimping it.

You can put me on the host list too.

Posted by: Jim at February 2, 2005 11:38 AM

I can do the hosting role any week except March 11th.

Posted by: Sadie at February 2, 2005 03:47 PM

And the official name for this carnival would be?...

Also, you'll want to notify Silflay Hraka who keeps a list of blog carnivals:

Posted by: Harvey at February 2, 2005 07:40 PM

I'll host one week.

Posted by: Mookie at February 2, 2005 10:15 PM

Am I right in thinking this carvinal is a Asian-theme one? Or does it have another theme to it? Or is it general (like an Asian version of Carvinal of the Vanities)?

Posted by: Rajan R at February 3, 2005 10:17 AM

Ahh, forget I ask. "New" slipped my eyes.

Posted by: Rajan R at February 3, 2005 10:18 AM

Add me to the end of that list. I'll take a week.

Posted by: Disintegrator at February 3, 2005 04:37 PM

Okay, I've posted an entry on my blog hyping the Feb. 14 and Feb. 21 showcases, and the Showcase in general....

http://celebritycola.blogspot.com/2005/02/new-blog-showcase.html

Drop me an email me if you don't like the way I've phrased/pitched any of this and I'll change anything that people feel is incorrect.

For now, I'm just calling it by it's original name: "The New Blog Showcase."

Posted by: Lucas Brachish at February 4, 2005 03:55 PM

I vote for naming it "Blogs We Are Confident Will Last More Than Three Months."

Posted by: Sadie at February 5, 2005 08:12 AM

The New New Blog Showcase?

The All New Blog Showcase?

The Showcase of New Blogs?

NBOTB?

Blogs by Folks Who Haven't Discovered They Don't Really Have the Time to Blog?

Oh, and put me down for hosting one some time. If I'm still around then, I'll do it.

Posted by: basil at February 5, 2005 12:31 PM

How about "The New Blog Showcase: Carnival I"

And then each week we'll change the number...

Carnival II
Carnival III
Carnival XIV
etc...

Posted by: Lucas Brachish at February 5, 2005 06:17 PM

Cornucopia? Showcase de jour? Nah. Let me think... carnival tends to turn some people off.

Posted by: Sadie at February 6, 2005 11:14 PM

Festival? Masquerade? I like Masquerade, because we all tend to *pretend* a little bit online...

Posted by: sadie at February 6, 2005 11:17 PM

How about Blogs: The Next Generation?

Posted by: Simon at February 7, 2005 06:25 AM

I like Lucas's concept. Perfectly descriptive, leaving little room for confusion.

Might want to make the Roman Numerals optional. Figure the host should be able to choose his own numbering system. There are, after all, a lot of fans of binary out there :-)

Posted by: Harvey at February 7, 2005 07:52 PM

I like Lucas's concept. Short, clear, descriptive.

Posted by: Harvey at February 7, 2005 07:54 PM

> These are people that have already emailed and offered to host it.

So, like, you thought my offer to host was a joke? Or are you turning it down without responding? I just want to know.

Posted by: basil at February 8, 2005 12:19 PM

I love the showcase. I'll host if'n you'll have me.

Posted by: Ogre at February 13, 2005 02:15 AM

I don't have any good suggestions for names, but have put a post in about the Feb 28 showcase which included links to the Feb 14 and Feb 21 showcases as well as to this page and to the guidelines posted here. Let me know if I need to tweak this. I will post a link to the next two when I post more about this (probably with the results.)

Posted by: Karin at February 13, 2005 05:02 PM

The word carnivale seems attractive to me so when I found a link to this site from somewhere in the blogsphere, I clicked on it. Then I checked the carnivale links. I suggest to make it more interesting, pick a topic for a week, maybe specific like 'cat' or broad like 'politics' and then encourage the bloggers to challenge their creativity by posting something in relation to the topic. This way the carnival would have a cohesive theme. Let the members decide for themselves what an interesting topic should be chosen and then name the so called carnival like "Carnivale of Cats" or "Political Carnivale". And then call the move from blogsite to blogsite a migration just like they used to do in old carnivales.

Just a suggestion,
euian
